NEET UG 2025: 20-year old dies by suicide in Maharashtra

A 20-year-old NEET-UG 2025 aspirant, Aniket Ankush Kangude, tragically died by suicide in Latur, Maharashtra, just two days before the national medical entrance exam. Aniket, the son of a farmer from Rui Dhanora village in Beed district, had been residing in a rented room in Latur for the past two years while attending a private coaching institute to prepare for the exam. He had previously appeared for NEET but was unable to secure a satisfactory score, which reportedly led to significant stress and anxiety. On May 2, he was found hanging in his accommodation in the Bodhe Nagar area. No suicide note was discovered, and police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
This incident is part of a concerning pattern of student suicides linked to the immense pressure surrounding competitive exams like NEET. In Kota, Rajasthan—a major hub for exam coaching—at least 14 student suicides have been reported in 2025 alone, with the most recent case involving a 17-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh who died by suicide just a day before the NEET exam.
These tragedies underscore the urgent need for comprehensive mental health support for students facing academic pressures.
