The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has opened the seat resignation window for candidates who were allotted MBBS or BDS seats in round 1 and round 2 of NEET UG 2025 counselling under the All India Quota (AIQ), deemed universities, central universities, and AIIMS/JIPMER seats.

This provision allows students who are unwilling to retain their allotted seats to formally withdraw before the mop-up round begins.

Key Details of the Seat Resignation Process

• Applicable Rounds: Candidates allotted seats in round 1 or round 2.

• Deadline: Resignation must be completed within the stipulated timeline announced by MCC.

• Mode: Online resignation through the MCC portal, followed by physical reporting at the allotted college for document verification and relieving letter.

• Refund of Security Deposit: Candidates resigning within the deadline will be eligible for a refund of their security deposit as per rules.

Why Seat Resignation Matters

The resignation process is crucial to ensure that:

1. Vacant seats are carried forward to the mop-up round.

2. Genuine candidates waiting for allotment get a fair chance.

3. Students are not penalized with fee forfeiture or barred from further rounds (if they exit within the allowed period).

Advisory for Students

MCC has advised candidates to:

• Download the resignation/exit letter after completing the process.

• Ensure that the resignation is approved by the allotted college.

• Not wait until the last day to avoid technical issues.

Failure to resign within the deadline will result in the forfeiture of security deposit and may also make the candidate ineligible for further counselling rounds.

Current Status of NEET UG 2025 Counselling

With round 2 allotments completed, more than 2,400 students were upgraded from their round 1 seats. The seat resignation option now provides flexibility to those who have secured better opportunities elsewhere or wish to participate in state counselling.

The MCC will soon release the mop-up round schedule, which is expected to fill up remaining MBBS and BDS seats in central and deemed universities.
