Education Budget 2025 Highlights: Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI see outlays rise while JNVs face cuts

In the Union Budget 2024-25, the Indian government has adjusted allocations across various educational initiatives:
Increased Allocations:
- Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan: This comprehensive program for school education received an increase of ₹4,500 crore compared to the Revised Estimates (RE) of 2023-24.
- PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI): The allocation for PM SHRI schools saw a significant rise, with ₹6,050 crore allocated for 2024-25, up from ₹2,800 crore in the previous year, marking a 116% increase.
Decreased Allocations:
- Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS): The budget for NVS, which manages Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, was reduced to ₹8,727 crore in the Revised Estimates for 2023-24, down from ₹9,302.67 crore in the Budget Estimates for the same year. However, for 2024-25, the allocation has been increased to ₹9,503.84 crore.
These budgetary adjustments reflect the government’s evolving priorities in the education sector, aiming to strengthen foundational education through programs like Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI, while recalibrating funding for established institutions such as Navodaya Vidyalayas.
