NMC issues guidelines for processing PG medical courses application; 665 forms received for increase in seats
MARB received about 1,010 applications for the start of postgraduate courses at existing medical colleges.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notification on the processing of applications for PG medical courses in the academic year 2024-25. According to an official announcement from the NMC, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has finalised the application procedure for the PG degree for the academic year 2024-2025. Applications have been received for the new PG courses and for increase of PG seats in existing medical colleges.
1,010 applications for start of PG courses
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) received about 1,010 applications for the start of postgraduate courses at existing medical colleges. The official press release by NMC read, “MARB received a total of 1,010 applications for the start of PG course in existing medical colleges for the AY 2024-25. Applications were reviewed by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) on the basis of establishment of medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023 published on June 2, 2023, PG-Medical Education Regulation 2000 issued on August 22, 2000, and strictly adhering to the criteria mentioned in public notice for inviting applications on NMC website dated August 16, 2023.”
665 applications received for an increase in PG seats
Around 665 applications were received for an increase in postgraduate seats at current medical institutions. “MARB received a total of 665 applications for the increase of PG seats in existing medical colleges for the AY 2024-25. Applications were reviewed by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) on the basis of Establishment of medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023 published on June 2, 2023, PG-Medical Education Regulation 2000 issued on August 22, 2000 and strictly adhering to the criteria mentioned in public notice for inviting applications on NMC website dated August 16, 2023” read the official notice.
Steps for processing applications
Scrutiny of application on various levels
The scrutiny process involved a thorough review of supporting documents, including essentiality certificates (EC), consent of affiliation (CoA), application fees, bank guarantees, relevant letters (eg, MBBS course status, letter of permission), and AEBAS data report.
AEBAS and Compliance submission
If the compliance report is satisfactory, the college must submit a signed sworn affidavit and self-assessment form by the dean or principal and HOD of the inspected department (preferably digital signature) on each page within a specified timeline.
Review of Compliance report
Review the dully filled and signed sworn affidavit with SAF (internal evaluation by college), and compliance reports, AEBAS data by experts.
