NEET UG round 2 counselling 2025 delayed as MCC extends R-1 resignation deadline to August 25

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially announced a delay in the round 2 schedule of NEET UG Counselling 2025, after extending the deadline for candidates to resign their round 1 allotted seats till August 25, 2025. This extension has been provided to ensure that students who wish to surrender their seats from the first round can do so smoothly before the start of the next phase.
Why the Extension?
According to MCC officials, several candidates and institutions had requested additional time for completing the seat resignation process. By extending the resignation deadline, the committee aims to avoid seat blocking and ensure that more deserving candidates get a chance at available seats in round 2.
Previously, the resignation deadline for round 1 was scheduled earlier, but with the revised timeline, round 2 counselling will begin only after the resignation data is processed and updated in the system.
Impact on Round 2 Counselling
The delay means that the round 2 registration, choice filling, and seat allotment schedule will be revised. The new dates will be announced shortly on the official MCC website (mcc.nic.in). Candidates are advised to check the portal regularly to stay updated on the revised timeline.
The round 2 counselling process will include:
Fresh registration and payment of counselling fees.
Choice filling and locking of preferred colleges/courses.
Publication of seat allotment result.
Reporting to the allotted college within the given deadline.
Importance for Candidates
The resignation window allows candidates allotted in round 1 to surrender their seats without forfeiting their security deposit. This ensures transparency and maximizes seat availability for those participating in round 2. Candidates who fail to resign within the extended deadline will be considered as seat holders and will not be eligible for further upgradation.
NEET UG Counselling 2025 Overview
NEET UG counselling is being conducted for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), along with seats in central universities, deemed universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, and other participating institutes. Separate state counselling processes are also underway for the remaining 85% state quota seats.
With the extension of the resignation deadline, the MCC has reaffirmed its commitment to a fair and transparent counselling process that benefits both students and institutions.
