Delhi HC revises income limit for EWS admission in schools to Rs 2.5 lakh ‘till further orders’
The Delhi High Court has set aside a single-judge order raising the income limit for EWS category admission to schools from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
The Delhi High Court has revised the annual income limit for school admissions in Delhi under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora modified a single judge order to raise the income limit from Rs 1,000 to Rs 50,000.
The state department revised the annual income limit for EWS from 1. lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh on further orders. Hearing a petition filed by the Delhi Board of Education, the board said, “Until further orders, the directions contained in section 119 of the impugned judgment will stand,” reported Live Law.
The high court’s order to raise the revenue. limit to Rs 5,000 came in December last year after it heard a case of a man who managed to secure his son’s admission to a Sanskrit medium school in the EWS category by forging birth and income certificates. However, the court allowed the student to continue his studies in the general category.
The court said the decision will be valid until the 2011 reservation system is changed. According to the Delhi School Education (Vacancies for Students Belonging to Economically Weaker and Disadvantaged Sections) Ordinance, 2011, schools in Delhi are required to give at least 25 percent quota to students belonging to the EWS category in Class 1. class. . It also said that such students should be given the right to education as per the law with free and compulsory primary education.
The court noted that the minimum wage for unskilled labor in Delhi is Rs 17,494 per month and it was far. – annual income is supposed to be less than 1000000 rupees at the time of application.
