UP NEET UG 2025 Round 3 Seat Allotment Postponed; MCC Directs States to Exclude AIQ-Joined Candidates

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has directed state authorities to postpone the Round 3 seat allotment process for NEET UG 2025 after issuing fresh guidelines to ensure that candidates already admitted under the All India Quota (AIQ) are excluded from state quota counselling lists.
The move comes in compliance with a recent Supreme Court directive, which emphasized that candidates who have joined seats under AIQ cannot simultaneously retain or participate in state-level allotments.
🗓 What Happened
The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Uttar Pradesh, was scheduled to release the Round 3 seat allotment results this week. However, following MCC’s advisory, the process has been put on hold temporarily until the updated list of AIQ-joined candidates is verified and removed from the state’s database.
This precaution aims to prevent duplication of admissions and ensure transparency and fairness in the ongoing counselling process for MBBS and BDS admissions under the Uttar Pradesh state quota.
⚖️ Background
The Supreme Court recently ruled that a candidate cannot hold two medical seats simultaneously — one under the 15% All India Quota and another under the state quota. MCC, in line with this judgment, has now asked all states to cross-check and eliminate AIQ seat holders from their state allotment lists before proceeding with any new seat allocation.
The directive affects multiple states, but Uttar Pradesh has been among the first to officially defer its counselling process in response.
📋 What Candidates Should Do
Stay updated: Keep checking the official UP NEET UG counselling portal for the revised Round 3 schedule.
Verify your status: Candidates who have accepted AIQ seats must not participate further in state quota rounds.
Prepare documents: Keep NEET UG 2025 scorecard, 10+2 mark sheets, category and domicile certificates, and ID proofs ready for the next steps.
Watch for revised dates: The new allotment result date, reporting schedule, and admission timeline will be announced soon after MCC issues the cleared candidate list.
🎯 Why This Matters
This development ensures fair seat distribution and prevents blocking of state quota seats by students already admitted under the All India Quota. It also safeguards deserving candidates awaiting their first or upgraded allotment in the state round.
While the postponement may cause a short delay, it is expected to streamline the counselling process and maintain integrity in the seat allocation system.
