MHT CET 2026 Registration to Require Aadhaar and APAAR ID; Maharashtra Govt Directs Students to Update Records

Mumbai: In a major move aimed at strengthening transparency and streamlining the admission process, the Government of Maharashtra has announced that Aadhaar number and APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) will be mandatory for MHT CET 2026 registration. Students aspiring for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture courses through MHT CET have been advised to update and verify their personal and academic documents well in advance.
The decision is part of the state’s efforts to integrate national digital education infrastructure and eliminate discrepancies during entrance examinations and counselling.
Aadhaar & APAAR ID Now Compulsory for MHT CET 2026
According to the new guidelines, candidates appearing for MHT CET 2026 must link their Aadhaar details with their academic records and generate an APAAR ID, which serves as a permanent digital academic identity for students across India.
The APAAR ID will help authorities:
Verify student identity
Track academic history digitally
Prevent duplication and impersonation
Simplify counselling and admission processes
Students without updated Aadhaar or APAAR ID details may face difficulties during application submission or seat allotment.
What Is APAAR ID and Why It Matters
The APAAR ID, introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework, is a unique lifelong academic ID that stores a student’s academic credentials in digital format.
For MHT CET 2026 aspirants, APAAR ID will be used to:
Match board examination records
Verify eligibility during counselling
Enable faster and paperless admissions
Education officials have clarified that the APAAR system will play a crucial role in future entrance exams and admissions nationwide.
Students Asked to Update Documents Early
The Maharashtra State CET Cell has advised candidates to ensure the following details are accurate and consistent across all documents:
Name (as per Aadhaar and Class 10/12 records)
Date of birth
Mobile number linked to Aadhaar
Academic details in DigiLocker/APAAR portal
Category and domicile certificates (if applicable)
Any mismatch in records may lead to rejection or delays during verification stages.
Who Will Be Affected
The new rule will apply to students seeking admission through MHT CET 2026 to courses such as:
Engineering (BTech/BE)
Pharmacy (BPharm/PharmD)
Agriculture and allied courses
Other professional programmes under the CET system
Both Maharashtra domicile and All India quota candidates will need to comply with the updated requirements.
Why the Change Was Introduced
Officials stated that making Aadhaar and APAAR ID mandatory will:
Enhance exam security
Reduce fraudulent applications
Ensure smoother counselling and admission rounds
Align state entrance exams with national digital education reforms
The move is expected to make the MHT CET admission process faster, more secure, and fully digitized.
What Students Should Do Now
Ensure Aadhaar is active and linked to a valid mobile number
