IISc Bengaluru to Admit BTech Students Through JoSAA Counselling 2026 Using JEE Advanced Ranks

    IISc

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has announced a major change in its Bachelor of Technology (BTech) admission process for the academic session 2026–27. From 2026 onwards, admission to the BTech programme will be conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling based on candidates’ JEE Advanced ranks.

This move brings IISc in line with other premier engineering institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIITs and Government Funded Technical Institutes, which already admit students through the centralised JoSAA system.

    New Admission Process from 2026

Under the revised system, students seeking admission to IISc’s BTech programme will be required to:

    • Qualify in JEE Advanced 2026 with a valid rank

    • Register and fill choices during JoSAA counselling 2026

    • Select IISc Bengaluru as one of their preferred institutions

    • Accept the allotted seat as per JoSAA guidelines

Earlier, IISc conducted its own admission process, where candidates had to apply separately on the institute’s portal and participate in an independent counselling procedure. The new system eliminates this additional step.

    Benefits for Students

The new admission framework is expected to offer several advantages:

    • Single platform admission: One counselling process for multiple top institutes

    • Greater transparency: Merit-based and automated seat allocation

    • Reduced administrative burden: No separate application or physical counselling at IISc

    • Time-saving: Faster and more streamlined admission process

Education experts believe this change will make IISc more accessible to top engineering aspirants across the country.

About the BTech Programme at IISc

IISc currently offers its flagship BTech in Mathematics and Computing, a highly competitive undergraduate programme known for its strong focus on research, computing, artificial intelligence, data science and advanced mathematics.

Admission will continue to be strictly based on JEE Advanced performance, maintaining the institute’s high academic standards.

    Important Dates (Expected)

    • JEE Advanced 2026 exam: May 17, 2026

      • Paper 1: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

      • Paper 2: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM

    • JoSAA Counselling 2026: Likely to begin in early June 2026, after declaration of results

    IISc’s Academic Reputation

IISc Bengaluru is consistently ranked among:

    • India’s top institutions in national rankings

    • Leading global universities in science, engineering and computing disciplines

The inclusion of IISc in JoSAA counselling further strengthens the credibility and attractiveness of the centralised admission system.

    Conclusion

With this decision, IISc Bengaluru has taken a significant step towards integrating its undergraduate admissions with the national engineering admission framework. For JEE Advanced aspirants in 2026, this opens a direct and simplified pathway to pursue a BTech degree at one of India’s most prestigious scientific institutions.
