CLAT UG 2026: DPS Ranchi’s Shaurya Shahdev Becomes Jharkhand State Topper, Secures AIR 22

The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) declared the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 on Tuesday, bringing cheer to students across Jharkhand. Candidates from the state have delivered an impressive performance, with Ranchi’s Shaurya Pratap Shahdev emerging as the Jharkhand State Topper in CLAT UG 2026.
Shaurya, a student of Delhi Public School (DPS), Ranchi, secured an All India Rank (AIR) 22 in the CLAT Undergraduate examination. He scored a total of 108 marks, placing him among the top 100 candidates nationwide and earning the top rank in the state.
Strong Performance by Jharkhand Students
Jharkhand recorded notable success in both undergraduate and postgraduate categories of CLAT 2026. While one candidate from Ranchi made it to the CLAT UG Top 100, two candidates from the state featured in the CLAT PG Top 100 list.
Other Jharkhand candidates also performed well. Apurva Raj from Ranchi secured AIR 321, while Sanchari Mukherjee obtained AIR 365. Several other students from the state successfully cleared the examination, highlighting Jharkhand’s growing presence in national-level law entrance tests.
About the Examination
The CLAT UG 2026 examination was conducted across five examination centres in Jharkhand, with approximately 2,000 candidates appearing for the test. Every year, thousands of students from across the country compete in CLAT for admission to prestigious National Law Universities (NLUs).
Early Preparation and Focused Strategy
Speaking about his success, Shaurya Shahdev said that he had decided early on to pursue a career in law.
“I started preparing for CLAT right after my Class 10 board examinations. Along with my schooling at DPS, I took coaching support and focused equally on all subjects, especially current affairs,” he said.
Shaurya revealed that he devoted around three hours daily to CLAT preparation initially, which increased to seven to eight hours a day during the final month before the exam. He credited consistent practice, conceptual clarity, and disciplined time management for his achievement.
Family Support Played a Key Role
Shaurya acknowledged the strong support of his family throughout his preparation journey. His father, Pratul Shahdev, is the Jharkhand BJP state spokesperson and a businessman, while his mother, Dr. Vidya Jha, serves as the Deputy Registrar at Sarla Birla University. He described their encouragement and guidance as a major motivating factor behind his success.
