NTA Dismisses Viral Claim About Removal of JEE Main 2026 Exam City Option

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially denied social media rumours claiming that the ‘Exam City’ selection option has been removed from the JEE Main 2026 registration process. The agency clarified that candidates can still choose their preferred exam cities as usual while filling out the application form for the January session.
In a statement issued today, the NTA urged students and parents not to believe unverified viral posts circulating on various social media platforms. The agency reaffirmed that the exam city preference feature remains active, and no modifications have been made to the registration process available on the official portal — jeemain.nta.ac.in.
“The claim that JEE Main 2026 candidates cannot select their exam cities is completely false. All candidates can provide up to four choices for their preferred exam centres, as mentioned in the information bulletin,” said an NTA official.
The clarification came after several posts went viral suggesting that NTA had disabled the option, creating confusion among aspirants.
The NTA further advised students to refer only to official notifications released on its website and avoid relying on unofficial sources for updates regarding registration, exam patterns, or dates.
The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 registration process is currently underway, and candidates are expected to fill in details such as personal information, educational qualifications, and exam city preferences before submitting their applications.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) serves as the gateway to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and also acts as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced — the entrance test for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
