JEE Main 2024: NTA says candidates evenly distributed in session 1; no data on absentees

JEE Main 2024 Results: The NTA shared data on shift-wise number of allotted candidates after several students claimed normalisation error in JEE session 1.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has evenly distributed candidates who appeared in the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2024) session 1 in multiple-shifts. The data on JEE Main 2024 shift-wise allotted number of candidates has been published by the NTA after several students alleged errors in percentile calculation and uneven distribution of candidates within shifts.

The NTA JEE Main 2024 results for session 1 was declared on February 13 early morning at jeemain.ntaonline.in and jeemain.nta.ac.in. “It was ensured that each shift was equally distributed in terms of candidate count, gender, and category,” the NTA officials said

A total of 11,70,036 appeared in JEE Main BE, BTech paper 1 in the January session. Several students took to social media claiming that there was a considerable difference in the JEE Main marks vs percentile and the January 27 and 29 shifts had more number of students compared to others leaving the students disadvantaged.

Following this, a YouTuber claimed that 23.8%, or about 2.9 lakh candidates were allotted January 27 shift 1. As per the data shared by the NTA, it is found that each shift has approximately 9.6% to 10.3% of the total registered candidates.

The January 27 shift 1 and shift 2 had 1.22 lakh and 1.25 lakh candidates, which is 10% and 10.3% respectively. The data rubbishes the claims made by the coaching institutes and students on social media.

Despite the NTA sharing the data, a X user posted: “I think this data is not correct as there is no third gender and still its total is 1221624 which is total registered candidates. Where are those 9 third gender candidates?”
