OVERVIEW

Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is a computer-based online test for Admission to Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS Pilani Campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad.

What’s New in BITSAT 2026?

  • BITSAT 2026 will be conducted in two sessions before the academic year begins.
  • Candidates can apply for the second session even if they have appeared for the first session.
  • Candidates who do not apply for the first session are still eligible to apply for the second session directly.
  • Although taking both sessions is not mandatory, if a candidate appears in both, the higher score will be considered for admission.

ABOUT

PATTERN

  • It is a Computer Based Test and candidates should do slot booking for the Test.
  • The exam will be of 3 hours duration and will consist of 4 parts.
  • There is no time limit for individual parts of the test.
  • There will be 130 questions in all.
  • All the questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) i.e. each question will have four choices, only one being the correct choice.
  • Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark).
  • No marks are awarded for questions not attempted.
  • The candidates can go back and change any of their answers among the 130 questions.
  • The medium of the Question Paper will be English only.

NOTE

  • If a candidate answers all the 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still time left.
  • These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and Logical Reasoning with three questions from each subject.
  • Also, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.

Eligiblity

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

  • Only students who are appearing for the Class 12 examination in 2026 or who have passed in 2025 are eligible to appear.
  • Students who have passed the Class 12 examination in 2024 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear.
  • Students appearing in 2026 must ensure their results (including any improvement exams) are available by June 1, 2026.

 

Marks in Qualifying Examination

  • Candidates must have passed the Class 12 examination under the 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Subjects: A minimum of five subjects is required, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, one Language, and any additional subject.
  • Candidates must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in PCM/PCB, with at least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology individually.
  • Improvement Exams: Students who completed their 12th-grade examination in 2025 may reappear for improvement exams in specific subject(s). However, the latest performance will be considered.
  • Candidates must possess a sufficient level of proficiency in English.

 

Note

  • Candidates with PCB as main subjects can apply only for the B.Pharm and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering programs.
  • Students who are currently studying at any BITS campus are not eligible to appear in BITSAT.

  • Candidates can take the mock test to familiarize themselves with the format of the computer-based test and the interface.

Procedure

Registration

  • The application process for BITSAT 2026 is divided into two application windows.
  • Phase I: Applications opened on December 15, 2025. Candidates can apply for Session-1 or Both Sessions during this period. The deadline for this phase is March 16, 2026.
  • Phase II (Session-2 Only): The application window will reopen from April 20 to May 2, 2026. This is for candidates who wish to apply for Session-2.
  • Candidates who did not apply during Phase I are still eligible to apply for Session-2 during Phase II.
  • Candidates who applied for only Session-1 in Phase I can also apply for Session-2 during Phase II.

 

Application Procedure

  1. Visit the BITS website and fill out the prescribed application form.
  2. Upload the scanned images of your Photograph (JPG, 50 KB-100 KB) and Signature (JPG, 10 KB-100 KB).
  3. Pay the examination fees online.
  4. Take a printout of the filled form for future reference.

 

Application Correction

  • Candidates will be provided with the opportunity to make corrections to their application form details.
  • The correction facility will be available from March 18 to March 20, 2026.
  • Note: Critical fields such as Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Email Address, Gender, and Test City Preferences cannot be edited after registration.

 

Slot Booking

  • Candidates are required to reserve a test date and slot for the BITSAT examination.
  • Slot booking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Candidates who choose to appear for both sessions must select one slot from the first set of dates and another from the second set of dates.
  • The slot booking process will be available according to the announced schedule.

 

 

Hall Ticket / Admit Card

  • Candidates who have registered for the test and reserved their test dates will be able to download the Hall Ticket from the BITS website.
  • A printed copy of the downloaded Hall Ticket must be presented at the time of the examination.

Result

Score / Result

  • At the end of the test, the candidate’s result, including the total number of correct and incorrect answers along with the BITSAT score, will be displayed on the computer screen.
  • The candidate can also view their score report on the BITS admission website the day after their test date.

 

Merit List

  • The merit position of eligible candidates (i.e., those who have appeared in BITSAT and have submitted the application for admission along with Class 12 marks, preferences, and the required fees) will be determined based on their BITSAT scores.
  • For candidates who have appeared in BITSAT twice, the higher of the two scores will be considered for admission.
  • Two separate merit lists will be prepared for admission: one for all programs except B.Pharm and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, and another specifically for B.Pharm and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering.

 

 

Applying for Admission

  • In addition to applying for and appearing in BITSAT, candidates must also apply for admission to BITS by providing details of their Class 12 marks and degree programme preferences.
  • The prescribed application form for admission, the detailed application procedure, and the final list of degree programmes offered will be available on the BITS website.
  • The completed application form, along with the required application fee, must be submitted online at the BITS admission site on or before the specified deadline.
  • For candidates who have appeared twice in BITSAT, the higher of the two scores will be considered for admission.

 

 

Direct Admission for Board Toppers

  • BITS Pilani offers direct admission to first rank holders of all Central and State boards in India, regardless of their BITSAT score.
  • Candidates must meet the minimum eligibility criteria of obtaining 75% aggregate marks in PCM/PCB, with at least 60% marks in each of the individual Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology subjects in their Class 12 examination.
  • The topper is determined based on the highest aggregate percentage among all students who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology subjects in the Class 12 examination from that Board.
  • Stream-Specific Eligibility: First rank holders in the PCM stream are eligible for admission to any first-degree program. First rank holders in the PCB stream are eligible only for B.Pharm or B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering programs.
  • Multiple Toppers: If more than one candidate is declared as the first rank holder by a Board, BITS will offer admission to a maximum of 4 candidates only under this scheme.
  • Tie-Breaking Criteria: In case of ties among toppers, candidates will be prioritized using the following criteria in order: (1) Marks in Mathematics/Biology in Class 12, (2) Marks in Physics in Class 12, (3) Marks in Chemistry in Class 12, (4) Marks in Mathematics in Class 10, (5) Marks in Science in Class 10.
  • Required Documentation: Applicants must submit documentary proof including their Class 12 mark sheet and an official letter from the Board declaring the candidate as the topper in the specified stream.
  • Applications under this scheme must be submitted online on or before the specified deadline (typically end of June).

 

 

Important Information

  • Candidates should bring a pen for rough work, signing, etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided if required.
  • Calculators and logarithmic tables are not permitted in the test centres.
  • Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings, such as mobile phones.
