The HNLU Raipur occupies a stable place in the list of best law schools in the country, with reputable rankings by different organizations supporting academic and institutional excellence. India Today 2024 rankings put HNLU Raipur at position 5 in the list of law colleges in India, which is much better than the previous years when the college was ranked 6. In the past few years, the Week has ranked it between 7 and 8, whilst the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has ranked it in the 30s in the country. HNLU has also received international fame as it takes 46th position in the 2025 World University Rankings of Innovation (WURI) ranking of Visionary Leadership, indicating its dedication to institutional innovation and leadership in the area of legal education.
Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, established in 2003, is a UGC-recognised and BCI–approved residential law university offering integrated BA LLB (Hons), LLM, and PhD programs. For the BA LLB program, the fee is around INR 2.10 LPA, for the LLM program, the fee is INR 1.60 LPA, and for the PhD program, the fee is INR 1.59 LPA.
HNLU Raipur admission for both the UG and PG courses is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Students who have passed/appeared in 10+2 exam and got at least 45% marks (for General/OBC) and 40% marks (for SC/ST) are eligible for CLAT 2026. The CLAT application fee is INR 4,000 (General/OBC) and INR 3,500 (SC/ST). Whereas, the HNLU application fee for PhD is INR 1,500 (for all categories). A centralized counselling process is also held after the CLAT results are declared. This is followed by registering, preference locking, seat allotment, document verification and paying admission fees. Also, for the LLM course, group discussions/interview rounds may also be conducted. The CLAT 2026 registration process begins on 1 August 2025, and the last date to apply is 31 October 2025. The CLAT 2026 exam date is 7 December 2025.
Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 System) or Equivalent Examination with 45% marks.As per the 2017 rules, there is no age bar for admission.She/he is not eligible for admission if they do not clear their qualifying examination with the required marks. Candidates, whose marks sheets of the qualifying examination are not produced at the time of formal interviews carried by the university are also not eligible for admission.
For Indian Nationals either B.A. LL.B., B.Com LL.B, B.Sc. LL.B, BBA LL.B., B.Tech LL.B., B.L.S. LL.B., LL.B. degree is must. The eligibility criteria for LLM course admissions for Foreign Nationals is such that admission will be offered if candidates possess LLB or an equivalent law degree with 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam. This criterion is for all the candidates.
Candidate must have LLM degree from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks.
B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) is a Full-Time Five-Year Course and it is offered by the Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, and is in complete conformity with the Bar Council of India Guidelines.

HNLU Raipur CLAT cutoff 2025 was concluded for admission to the law courses at the UG and PG levels. For B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), the CLAT last-round closing rank was 827 for the students belonging to the General AI quota. The first-round cutoff for the same course stood at 765.
In the Home State quota, the first and last round closing ranks for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) admission were 3770 and 4227, respectively, for the General category candidates.
At the PG level, the cutoff was released for Discontinued (March 2024) LL.M in Public Law, for which the CLAT 2025 last round cutoff concluded at 1304. For more details, refer to the table provided below:
