IIT Delhi launches initiative ‘Jigyasa’ to connect people with its laboratories

Faridabad, May 14, 2025 — The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has unveiled a new outreach initiative named ‘Jigyasa’, aiming to demystify scientific research and make it accessible to the general public. Spearheaded by the institute’s Academic Outreach Office, the program seeks to connect the community with the cutting-edge work conducted in IIT Delhi’s laboratories.
The inaugural event of ‘Jigyasa’ took place on May 12, 2025, at JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, coinciding with National Technology Day. The event featured lectures, poster exhibitions, and panel discussions designed to engage attendees with ongoing research in an informal setting.
Keynote addresses were delivered by Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vice Chancellor of JC Bose University, and Prof. Maithili Sharan from IIT Delhi’s Centre for Atmospheric Sciences. They discussed India’s nuclear program and the importance of developing indigenous technologies.
The afternoon session highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) research at IIT Delhi. Prof. Chetan Arora from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering presented current AI projects, followed by a panel discussion titled “Artificial Intelligence: A Replacement or Augmentation for Human Intelligence.” Panelists included Professors Brejesh Lall, Prapanch Nair, and Chetan Arora, with Prof. Ritabrata Thakur moderating the session.
Through ‘Jigyasa’, IIT Delhi aims to foster curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and inspire the next generation by making complex scientific concepts understandable and relevant to diverse audiences. The initiative plans to organize similar outreach events across various educational institutions and community spaces nationwide.
