In response to the tragic death of Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has taken decisive action. He announced that the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched two officials to the university to provide counseling and support to the Nepalese student community affected by this incident. The embassy is actively coordinating with the Indian government and the Odisha Chief Minister’s office to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lamsal’s death. Additionally, KIIT has assured the embassy that accommodations will be arranged for Nepalese students in university hostels, and that their academic activities will continue without disruption.

This intervention comes amid heightened tensions, as Nepalese students have staged protests following the incident. The situation escalated when reports emerged that these students were allegedly forced to vacate their hostels and were transported to Cuttack railway station. Viral videos depicting security personnel and faculty members mistreating students have further intensified the outrage.

In Kathmandu, a group of Nepalese students demonstrated in front of the Indian Embassy, holding placards demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. The Nepalese government, along with the international community, continues to closely monitor the developments as the investigation progresses.
