NEET UG 2025: Exam pattern to tie-breaking rules, 5 major changes in medical entrance test

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced significant changes to the NEET UG 2025 examination. Here are the five major updates:
Revised Exam Pattern:
- The optional Section B, introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been removed.
- The exam will now consist of 180 mandatory questions: 45 each in Physics and Chemistry, and 90 in Biology.
- The total duration is 180 minutes (3 hours).
Updated Tie-Breaking Criteria:
- In cases where two or more candidates achieve identical scores, the following criteria will be applied sequentially:
- Higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology).
- Higher marks in Chemistry.
- Higher marks in Physics.
- Fewer incorrect answers across all subjects.
- Fewer incorrect answers in Biology.
- Fewer incorrect answers in Chemistry.
- Fewer incorrect answers in Physics.
- If a tie persists after these steps, an independent expert committee will determine the merit order through a random process.
- In cases where two or more candidates achieve identical scores, the following criteria will be applied sequentially:
Removal of Optional Questions:
- The optional questions provided during the pandemic have been eliminated, reverting to the pre-COVID format.
No Additional Time:
- The additional time previously allotted has been discontinued; candidates now have 3 hours to complete the exam.
Mandatory APAAR ID Removed:
- The requirement for an APAAR ID during registration has been eliminated.
These changes aim to streamline the examination process and ensure a fair assessment for all candidates.
