A tragic incident occurred at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal, identified as Prakriti Lamsal, was found dead in her hostel room on February 16, 2025. The university suspects it to be a case of suicide, possibly linked to a personal relationship. Prakriti’s cousin has alleged that she was being blackmailed by a fellow male student, which may have led to her taking this drastic step. The accused student has been taken into custody for interrogation, and authorities have seized electronic devices belonging to the deceased for further investigation. In response to the incident, the university has directed all Nepalese students to vacate the campus immediately.

This event has sparked protests among students, raising concerns about campus safety and the university’s handling of such sensitive matters. The situation remains tense as investigations continue.
