The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced significant changes for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025.

Removal of Optional Questions in Section B

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NTA introduced optional questions in Section B to accommodate academic disruptions. Candidates could choose 5 out of 10 numerical questions in each subject. With the World Health Organization declaring the end of COVID-19 as a public health emergency on May 5, 2023, NTA has decided to revert to the original exam structure. Starting from JEE Main 2025, Section B will contain only five mandatory questions per subject, and candidates must attempt all five without any options for selection.

Implications for Candidates

This change requires students to prepare comprehensively across all topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, as selective study will no longer be advantageous. Experts suggest that this adjustment may influence cut-off scores, given the increased pressure to answer all questions without choice.
