ICAR counselling 2025 to begin on September 2 after prolonged delay: Reports

After an extended wait, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is set to launch the online counselling process for undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD admissions starting September 2, 2025.
Background & Delay
Originally scheduled for July 31, the counselling process was postponed due to delays in candidate data from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and requests from several State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and deemed institutions for additional preparation time.
Meanwhile, thousands of aspirants remain anxious—many have already secured seats through private or state-level admissions and have commenced classes, raising concerns about losing academic continuity.
Seats & Schedule Overview
A total of 7,325 All-India Quota (AIQ) seats will be offered across 12 disciplines, including key areas like B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, Horticulture, B.F.Sc. Fisheries, B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, and Biotechnology.
Registration for counselling will remain open for approximately one week starting September 2.
The rank list is expected in the third week of September, with Round 1 seat allotment and college reporting scheduled between September 15–17.
Academic Impact & Institutional Concerns
Faculty and university administrators have warned of a compressed academic calendar for students admitted through ICAR counselling. Delayed admission may result in insufficient classroom contact hours and reduced practical training.
For instance:
Some SAUs in Uttar Pradesh may need to conduct an additional orientation for late-joining students to accommodate them effectively.
RLBCAU Jhansi and other central institutions typically handle admissions through ICAR over a two-month window. Any further delay threatens to truncate critical academic exposure for incoming cohorts.
Final Thoughts
With the counselling process now firmly scheduled for September 2, many students and institutions can finally plan ahead. The coming weeks will be crucial, both for applicants hoping to secure their place and for universities needing to catch up with admissions and course commencement.
