Dharmendra Pradhan Meets Odisha CM Majhi, Discusses School and Mass Education Reforms
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the state secretariat and held discussions on strengthening the school and mass education sector in the state.
During the meeting, both leaders deliberated on ways to improve the quality of education, infrastructure in government schools, digital learning opportunities, and teacher training programmes. Special focus was laid on enhancing foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) among primary students and aligning Odisha’s school education system with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Pradhan emphasized the need for greater collaboration between the Centre and the state to ensure that students in Odisha, especially from rural and tribal regions, have access to modern classrooms, vocational education, and technology-enabled learning. He assured full support from the Union government in implementing centrally sponsored schemes such as PM SHRI Schools, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and PM e-VIDYA.
Chief Minister Majhi, while welcoming the Union Minister, underlined the state’s commitment to reducing dropout rates, improving school infrastructure, and promoting mother-tongue-based education in tribal areas. He also highlighted the Odisha government’s initiatives for free textbooks, uniforms, and scholarships to ensure inclusive education.
Both sides also discussed the possibility of introducing skill-based courses at the school level to prepare students for future employment opportunities.
The meeting is seen as significant, coming at a time when Odisha is aiming to revamp its education system in line with NEP 2020, while the Centre is pushing for uniform standards of quality education across states.
Officials from the School and Mass Education Department were also present during the meeting, where detailed presentations were made on ongoing schemes and future plans.
