CAT 2023 application underway; know IIM selection process

After the CAT 2023 result is declared, each IIM will send interview call letters to the shortlisted candidates directly.

The application process for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 is underway. The CAT 2023 application form last date is September 13. After the exam is held in November and results are declared, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will make the list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection available on their websites. Each IIM will send interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly. The criteria to shortlist vary across IIMs, an official statement said.

IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include a written ability test (WAT), group discussion (GD) and personal interviews (PI).

Performance in CAT 2023 is an important component of the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. Candidates have been advised to refer to the admissions policies of individual IIMs on their respective websites.

After the candidates are shortlisted by an IIM for interview, they will have to produce certain documents at the time of admission. These include mark sheets, degree certificates and reservation category certificates.

The deadline to submit the qualifying degree or equivalent mark sheet and certificate, the CAT official statement added, is December 31, 2024.

“Non fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. Provisional admission will also be cancelled if subsequently it is found that the submitted certificate is incorrect,” it added.
