In September 2023, a group of NEET-PG aspirants filed a plea with the Supreme Court of India, seeking the cancellation and reconducting of Round 3 of the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling. Their primary concern was that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) initiated Round 3 of AIQ counselling on September 9, 2023, while several states had not yet completed their Round 2 state quota counselling. This overlap, they argued, could lead to double allotment of seats to the same candidates, thereby compromising the fairness of the counselling process.

The Supreme Court acknowledged the plea and issued notices to the MCC and the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Telangana. However, the Court declined to pass any interim orders to halt the ongoing AIQ counselling, opting instead to proceed with a detailed hearing on the matter.

In a subsequent hearing on October 6, 2023, the Supreme Court refused to order the reconducting of AIQ Round 3 counselling. Instead, the Court directed the MCC to proceed with the mop-up round and facilitate seat upgradation during this phase.

As of now, there have been no further reports of NEET-PG aspirants approaching the Supreme Court with similar demands. The counselling process has continued as per the directives issued by the Court.
