What changes in CUET 2025? no optional questions, fewer subjects
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced significant changes to the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG) for 2025. Key updates include:
- Examination Mode: The exam will now be conducted exclusively in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, eliminating the previous hybrid model.
- Number of Subjects: The total subjects have been reduced from 63 to 37, comprising 13 languages and 23 domain-specific subjects. Subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics have been removed.
- Subject Selection Flexibility: Candidates can now choose any subject for the exam, regardless of their Class 12 background, promoting interdisciplinary opportunities in higher education.
- Number of Subject Choices: Applicants can select up to five subjects, reduced from the previous limit of six.
- Exam Duration: Each test will have a uniform duration of 60 minutes, standardizing the time across all subjects.
- Question Format: All questions are now compulsory, with the removal of optional questions, ensuring a uniform assessment for all candidates.
- Language Options: The number of languages offered has been reduced from 33 to 13, including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
These revisions aim to streamline the examination process, enhance efficiency, and provide greater flexibility for students in their higher education pursuits.
