CBSE Results 2024: What is Relative Grading?
Students must note that the grading system is percentile system. Instead of grading on the basis of predetermined cut off levels, CBSE has adopted relative grading. Under this, the grades are not determined on the basis of marks range but on the basis of group. The grades vary from subject to subject on the basis of number of candidates passing the subject.
Students must note that as per the relative grading system, the grades of two students securing same marks can be different. CBSE assigns grades on the basis of number of students passing the subject and their relative scores.
CBSE Toppers 2024: Merit Certificates
CBSE does not officially announce toppers or release merit list. However, merit certificates will be issued to all students who are in the top 0.1% in each subject, provided at least 500 students have appeared in that subject.
CBSE Grading 2024: Points Considered by Board
1. Minor variations in the proportion of candidates to adjust ties are made, wherever necessary
2. In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score are awarded the similar grade
3. Method of grading is used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500
4. In respect of subjects where the total number of candidates passing in a subject is less than 500, the
grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects. For example, 10,000 students passed in Mathematics for CBSE exam. Out of these, the top 1/6th students will be given A1 in the grade. If the highest score in Mathematics is 99 per cent, then A1 will be given to top 1/6 or 1666 students. The percentage of marks secured by students in a subject will not be considered but the percentile student is placed in the overall tally of passed students is considered.
