No decline in UGC grants to Delhi University in last 5 years: Education Ministry tells Parliament

    ugc net

The Ministry of Education has informed Parliament that there has been no decline in the University Grants Commission (UGC) grants allocated to Delhi University over the past five years. The funding has increased from ₹607 crore in 2019-20 to ₹955 crore in 2023-24, reflecting consistent governmental support.

    Key Points:

    • Consistent Funding: The UGC grants to Delhi University have shown a steady increase, with ₹607 crore in 2019-20 and ₹955 crore in 2023-24.
    • Revenue from Student Fees: Over the same period, the university’s revenue from student fees has more than doubled, exceeding ₹200 crore in the previous fiscal year.
    • Declining Share of UGC Grants: Despite the increase in absolute terms, the share of UGC grants in the university’s total revenue has decreased from approximately 83% in 2019-20 to 77% in 2023-24.

These developments indicate a growing reliance on internal revenue sources, such as student fees, to support the university’s financial needs.
