IISER Aptitude Test

OVERVIEW

IISERs conduct the IISER Aptitude Test for admissions to the 5-year BS-MS degree programmes at Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research and the 4-year BS programmes at IISER Bhopal. The IISER Aptitude Test is conducted at various centres across the country.

ABOUT

Exam Pattern

  • The exam will be a computer-based test (CBT) with a duration of 3 hours.
  • All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), i.e., each question will have four choices, with only one correct answer.
  • The exam will consist of a total of 60 questions, with 15 questions each from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
  • Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct answer, while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.
  • The medium of the paper will be English and Hindi.

Eligiblity

  • Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
  • Class XII Performance criteria: Candidates need to obtain a minimum of 60% marks (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 55% marks (SC/ST/PwD) in their Class XII examination.

Mock Test

  • An official mock test is made available to candidates appearing for the IAT.
  • Candidates can take the mock test to understand the pattern of the computer-based test and familiarize themselves with the interface.
  • The mock test is for practice purposes only.

Procedure

Registration

  • The registrations for IISER Aptitude Test 2025 are expected to begin in April 2025.
  • The last date to register is expected to be in May 2025.

 

Application Procedure

  • Interested candidates need to visit the IISER Admission website and register with a valid email address.
  • Fill in the basic details and upload a recent photograph in the registration form.
  • Enter the subject-wise marks in the prescribed form (name of the subject and marks obtained out of the maximum marks).
  • Pay the application fee online.
  • Download a copy of the application for future reference.

Application Correction

  • Candidates will be provided with the facility to make corrections in their application form particulars.
  • This is a one-time facility provided to candidates to avoid any hardship.
  • Candidates will be able to correct the data entered in the application form, including Photo ID, Marksheet, Category certificate, and IISER preferences.

 

Note

  • Candidates can select up to five preferred test cities for the IAT examination.
  • However, the allocation of test cities will be subject to availability.

 

Hall Ticket / Admit Card

  • The hall ticket can be downloaded from the IISER Admissions site once it is notified.
  • Please note that the Admit Card will be issued only to those candidates whose application form is complete in all respects and has been successfully submitted on or before the last date of submission.
  • Candidates can download their hall ticket by logging into their account on the IISER Admissions portal.
  • Candidates are required to produce the admit card at the test centre, without which entry will not be allowed.

 

Answer Keys

  • The answer keys for the computer-based examination will be made available on the IAT website.
  • If a candidate is unsatisfied with an answer, they can challenge the answer keys by providing all necessary enclosures.
  • The Provisional Answer Key and Final Answer Key will be released as per the schedule.

 

Merit List

  • A merit list will be prepared based on the score obtained by the candidate in the examination.
  • Admissions will be granted based on the candidate’s rank in the merit list.

Result

  • The result of the IISER Aptitude Test will be declared as per the schedule.
  • If a candidate is allotted a seat in any of the IISERs, they must pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (within the due date) to accept the admission offer and confirm their intent to join.

 

Admission

  • Candidates will be asked to provide their college and branch preferences in the online application form.
  • Seat allotment will be based on the availability of seats in the respective IISERs, the candidate’s rank in the merit list, and their preferences.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

I have not studied Biology/Mathematics at the +2 level. Can I take the test?

You must have studied at least one of the two subjects, Mathematics or Biology, at the class XII level. However, the questions will cover Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, with equal weightage for each subject.

Where/When can I get the hall ticket for the IISER Aptitude Test?

The hall ticket will be available for download on the IISER Admissions website a few days before the IISER Aptitude Test.

 

Question 4

I am a Class XII science student. To which programmes can I apply in IISERs?

Any student who has qualified the Class XII examination in the science stream in 2023, 2024, or 2025 can apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. To apply for the 4-year BS programmes, students must have had Mathematics as one of the subjects in the Class XII examination.
