NLU Odisha: National Law University Odisha (NLUO), established in 2009 under the National Law University Orissa Act, 2008, is a premier institution for legal education located in Cuttack, Odisha. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with an “A” grade by NAAC. The university offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in law, all approved by the Bar Council of India. 

The flagship courses at NLU Odisha include BA LL.B (Hons), BBA LL.B (Hons), LLM, PhD, and MPhil. For undergraduate law courses, candidates must have completed 10+2 with at least 45% marks and qualify CLAT, while LL.M admission requires a law degree and CLAT PG score.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to NLU Odisha

The eligibility criteria for admission to NLU Odisha are set according to the specific program applied for, and selection is strictly entrance-based. Candidates must fulfill the minimum academic qualifications and secure a valid score in the required entrance examination for their chosen course. 

The eligibility criteria for admission to NLU Odisha in UG law courses are explained below:

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in 10+2 is required (40% for SC/ST candidates) for admission to both BA LL.B (Hons) and BBA LL.B (Hons) programs. 
  • Admission is strictly through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) UG. Direct admission without CLAT is not permitted. 
  • Candidates appearing for their 10+2 exams in the admission year are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the marks criteria upon result declaration.

NLU Odisha Admission Process

Admission to UG law courses at NLU Odisha is strictly entrance-based. Direct admission without CLAT is not permitted. NLU admission process for BA LL.B (Hons) and BBA LL.B (Hons) programs is as follows.

  • CLAT Registration and Exam: Candidates must register for and appear in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
  • Application Submission: After receiving the CLAT score, candidates submit their academic records and CLAT results to NLU Odisha as part of the application process.
  • Merit List and Cutoff: The university prepares a merit list based on CLAT scores and academic performance, releasing course-wise cutoffs for admission.
  • CLAT Counselling: Shortlisted candidates participate in the CLAT counselling process conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for final seat allotment.
  • Admission Confirmation: Candidates allotted a seat must confirm admission by submitting the required documents and paying the admission fee to NLU Odisha.

NLU Odisha Admission Important Dates 2025

For admission to 5-year LLB program at NLU Odisha, candidates needed to qualify CLAT exam, which was held on 1 December 2025. Counselling and seat allotment princess continued through June after that. For the three-year LL.B program, the application window ran from 13 February to 20 April 2025, and the entrance exam was conducted on 11 May 2025. NLU Odisha B.A. LLB, BB.A LL.B Honors

NLU Odisha offers a five year-integrated B.A., BB.A LL.B programme that combines training in law with knowledge of the social sciences. The liberal arts component of the B.A.LL.B program includes five arts subjects (Political Science, Sociology, Economics, English and Mass Communication), which are supplemented by a range of law courses; and together they provide a broad-based multidisciplinary foundation to the curricula.

NLU Odisha B.A. LLB, BB.A LL.B Honors Eligibility

A candidate for admission to the B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:

  • Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto and the admission shall be done based on merit of CLAT.
  • Candidates who are appearing or have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test.

Eligibility Criteria for Domicile Reservation: Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent examination from the state of Odisha and secured at least 60% marks (or its equivalent grade) in the said examination from any recognized College/University in the state of Odisha.
