GNLU Gujarat, which was established in 2003 by the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003, commenced its programmes in the year 2004. The university has a vast library and collection of more than 35,000 volumes of books, and law reports and has a subscription to 150 current journals, newspapers, reference books, and e-books.

 

It has huge resources in the field of law and other allied subjects such as Management, Sociology, Science & Technology, History, Economics, and English Literature. The GNLU full form is Gujarat National Law University. It is among the top NLUs in India.

Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, was established through the significant contributions of key individuals. India’s Solicitor General Kirit RavalGujarat’s Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and the Bar Council of India came together to form this university.
It is modeled after the National Law School of India University in Bangalore. GNLU is the 7th National Law University in India. The establishment was made possible through the support of the Indian government, the Gujarat government, and the legal community. At first, Prof. (Dr.) V.S. Mani led it, then Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel. In 2012, GNLU moved to a new 50-acre campus in Gandhinagar’s Knowledge Corridor.

Admission

To join GNLU’s undergraduate or postgraduate programs, students need to do well in CLAT. On the basis of that, GNLU results are declared. The first CLAT was held in 2008 by NLSIU. In 2014, GNLU started conducting CLAT. About 60,000 students took the CLAT exam in 2019.

 

BA LLB is the flagship program offered at GNLU Gandhinagar. For admission to the BA LLB program, candidates must have passed Intermediate (10+2)/ Higher Secondary or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with at least 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC and ST candidates) and need to appear for CLAT examination. Generally the application for the CLAT commenced from July to October with the application fee of INR 4,000. In 2025, CLAT overall cutoff for the general category is 402.

Besides the BA LLB, GNLU Gandhinagar also offers a PhD program which offers 9 specialisations. For admission to the PhD program candidate should have passed LLM with minimum 55% marks and need to appear for the entrance test conducted by the GNLU. Candidates with a valid score in UGC-NET/SLET are exempted from the admission test.

1. Undergraduate Program

The annual tuition fees for undergraduate programs range from INR 1.5 lakhs to INR 2 lakhs. It might vary based on the course you have selected.

2. Postgraduate Program

Postgraduate programs entail tuition fees ranging from INR 1.2 lakhs to INR 1.8 lakhs per year. This one also depends on the chosen specialization.

3. GNLU LLM

4. GNLU BA LLB
